Corporate Id Group announces Advocacy for Legacy

Corporate ID Group announces the start of ‘Advocacy for Legacy’, a new venture in corporate social advocacy championing actions targeting those in danger of neglect, primarily children who are increasingly facing challenging situations resulting from inadequate upbringing as a result of economic pressures, substance abuse; and other difficult circumstances hindering the child development.

This is an innovative approach bringing together major players from the corporate sector, academia, activism, and the professions to contribute collectively and constructively.

The Executive Chairman of Corporate ID Group Jesmond Saliba said that ‘Advocacy for Legacy’ introduces Malta to Corporate Social Advocacy, which goes several steps beyond Corporate Social Responsibility.

Social Advocacy is concerned with issues of a social nature over a sustained period. “We have become used to CSR exercises that support existing projects, but Social Advocacy is strategically deployed concrete action directed towards influencing policy and implementation of programmes in a specific area, in this case societal wellbeing,” explained Mr Saliba.

Advocacy for Legacy will start as a forum championing the wellbeing of society through a concerted effort by academia, industry players, NGOs and other players who seek to address societal ailments through a focused and well-researched approach.

The initial efforts will focus on the academic research done by the University’s Faculty of Social Wellbeing, where sociologists and experts in children well-being will analyse and identify a number of issues (through existent or future research taken by students) that necessitate immediate, preventive action across a number of societal strata, primarily children.

Through the participation of the corporate sector, companies will be invited to engage their workers in championing the actions taken by Advocacy For Legacy, directed towards children.

There will be the engagement of NGOs who are actively engaged and have an outreach with children and youths so as the forum will develop into a Foundation with the objective to implement a programme of initiatives among targeted audiences who are in danger of societal and economical neglect.

The Foundation will develop into a key player who together with existing players (Governmental and non-Governmental organisations) will facilitate and implement actions to ensure that the economic progress of the country results in an improved societal wellbeing.

“It is satisfying that over a relative short time, I managed to get on board over 40 professionals and now we’re ready to set sail,” added Mr Saliba.

The team brings together at various levels of engagement several successful entrepreneurs, sociologists child wellbeing professionals, experts who hail from the voluntary sector engaged with children), representatives from a number of constituted bodies, academics, professional in different fields and societal well-being activists.

The highest institutions in the country have been well-briefed of the initiative, developing ‘Advocacy for Legacy’ into the partnership that helps and complements the state in this specialised field. Maltese Members of the European Parliament Miriam Dalli and Roberta Metsola have also endorsed the vision and will work together to raise the issue of child neglect high on the agenda of the EU.
